Olympic Valley, California, June 2022
Grand Pacific Resorts, a timeshare resort management company, has announced on behalf of its 2,300 timeshare owners at Red Wolf Lodge at Squaw Valley, the official change of the resort’s name to Red Wolf Lodge at Olympic Valley.
As background, in September 2021, Alterra Mountain Company, owners of the famed Squaw Valley ski resort (site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and located just 7 miles northwest of Lake Tahoe), announced that it was changing the name of the resort from Squaw Valley to Palisades Tahoe. Even though many people refer to this beautiful valley setting as Squaw Valley (and have done so since the 1800’s), the valley itself is formally known as Olympic Valley, an unincorporated area within Placer County, California. The “at Squaw Valley” portion of Red Wolf’s name was always a reference to the resort’s ski in-ski-out location at the base of the ski resort.
With the decision made to change the name of the ski resort, this necessitated that Red Wolf undertake a process to change its name as well (as “at Squaw Valley” simply no longer existed). “Similar to other businesses and entities with the Squaw Valley moniker as part of their name, our Board quickly gravitated to “at Olympic Valley” as we believed our owners and guests, many who have been staying here since the mid-1980’s, would have a high awareness for the Olympic Valley name and location”, said Peter Grant, Board President.
Grand Pacific Resorts has a long-standing presence in the Tahoe area. In addition to Red Wolf Lodge at Olympic Valley, it also manages the Olympic Village Inn, the Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge and the Tahoe Sands Resort, all located in the North Lake Tahoe area. Each resort offers beautiful accommodations and views, convenient access to the sites and activities of the region, and a home-away-from-home style of comfort that owners, renters, and exchangers love.
